Camping In The Summer Heat

Camping is the number one summer excursion. Kids are off from school, you have some vacation time saved, and the weather is sunny and warm. However, the heat can be dangerous and exhausting. You must be prepared for camping in the heat. Beat the heat with these tips when you have limited sources.

Night’s can be long and uncomfortable. Make your mornings a bit easier by getting a good sleep. To ensure a good sleep in a hot tent bring along a fan. A battery operated fan in the tent can circulate the hot air. It can also help with creating white noise(husband snoring). If your brave and checked the weather and it’s clear for the night, take off the rain guard on top to let air come in.

Location of the tent is key too. Think shade! Setting up the tent under trees will keep the temperatures low in the tent. No trees ? Try a large tarp, or sheet draped.

Dress for the weather. Light colored wicking fabric such as merino wool is the best. Merino Wool also doesn’t hold smells, so what better garment to pack. Camping without showers can lead to some dirty ,smelly clothing. So rest assure, a couple long hikes and sweaty night in a Woolx baselayer will have you smelling fresh the next day.

Pack lots of water. Campers tend to pack more juices, alcoholic beverages and soda. Good refreshing water will not only keep you hydrated on hot days but is healthy for you.

Take advantage of the local swimming areas. Jump into a lake or water hole for a quick cool off. Even better jump on an inner tube and relax floating down the river.
