Camping With Kids

Thinking of camping before the summer ends but too overwhelmed with the thought of taking the kids. Camping With Kids can either be a fantastic experience or a very stressful experience. Proper preparation before heading out to camp can ensure a great time had by all.

First, choose a place that is more kid friendly. A place that has plenty of activities such as fishing, swimming, hiking, bike trails, etc… A dull ,obsolete camp ground will produce bored kids quickly.  A good resort to pick is one with options. Movie night, smore’s night, fishing contests, these are just a few.

You will want to pack according to weather. Look at your local weather channel to see what is to be expected. A wet, soggy kid is an unhappy kid. Also, a kid that didn’t sleep well at night due to hot heat will make a long day. Proper clothing will stop all those unwanted tears. Merino wool is a great option of clothing to pack. Great for cold, and great for hot. Bring extra clothing along. If the site has electricity, you can always bring along a box fan to put in the tent for the hot summer nights, an of course the unwanted snoring.

Late Night Smore’s

Based on my experience, You can never have enough food. Always good to have more then enough then not enough. Long hikes and swimming throughout the day make kids very hungry. Prepacked snacks for them to grab are a great idea. Raisins, nuts, and granola are just a few examples of some grab and go snacks. The old fashioned popcorn in a tin with a handle pops great over the bon fire at night for a late night treat. Bring many bottles of water, especially in the heat. All that running around involved in the scavenger hunts will make for some thirsty kids and keep them well hydrated.

All though the camp provides activities, bring some of your own. Kids love to paint, bring some paint along for rocks, sticks, etc…. Pack a few game boards for some late night game night by the fire. Print out lists of certain items to find along the hike of the day. Make it challenging so that the kids will want to hike along the trail without complaints. A prize for the most items gathered or spotted is good incentive.

Camping is a very popular summer event. Camping can always create lasting family memories, especially for the kids. So before booking that cruise for 2 look, check into the awesome adventures available for family vacations.
