Spring break for most students is just around the corner. Millions of spring breakers vacation in different parts of the world. It’s the busiest traveling month of the year. And for most, hotel rooms are rented for the spring vacation. Now rest assure, a good time is had by many, however some have lasting impressions of the hotel room they stayed in. They even perhaps brought home a extra guest after check out. How well do you know that hotel room?

Before you start clicking through channels on the remote control, Stop! The remote control is one of the highest carrier of bacteria. Including ecol i. Many people touch the remote while on their stay. Many people also don’t actively wash their hands. Before panic sets in, there is a solution. A simple plastic bag over the remote. The remote will still work properly. The bag will prevent any transfer of germs to your hands.

Next, the one that most people fear, the bed! The bedding in most hotel rooms were tested. This is where those creepy crawlers hide. Bed bugs, scabies,etc.. all there hidden in a throw pillow or the decorative comforter. More so in the comforter and pillows then the actual sheets. The sheets get washed more often then the comforter. Easy solution on this one as well. Do not use them. Toss them on the floor or in a chair. Bring your own linens to sleep with for that piece of mind. When arriving home wash the sheets in a hot water to avoid bringing home bed bugs from the mattress.

Sitting back and relaxing for the evening and you get that urge for a ice cold beverage. You need ice, so you grab the ice bucket provided to you in the room. Not the best idea. Several tests revealed contamination. Many hotels are now starting to provide plastic bags on the inside of the bucket. If yours is missing call the front desk for one before you go to the ice machine.

Ring, Ring, Ring, the phone is ringing! Your instincts tell you to answer  it. However, do you know that hotel phone is a germ pool. Most housekeepers tend to skip wiping down the phone receiver. Perhaps, the guest before you had the flu or a cold. Those germs might still be lurking. To avoid common viruses from transferring a simple task of wiping the phone down with an alcohol wipe can make a difference. Or skip the land line and just use your own personal cell phone.

As easy as it is to come in contact of various germs, it’s just as easy to avoid. So before you head out for your spring break adventure take precautions to prevent these unwanted “free gifts”. You will be a much happier vacationer.
