In the summer you will find him and his dogs living on the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, Alaska; taking tourists on sled rides over the glacier. In the fall and winter Matthew is back home in Willow training for either the Iditarod, Yukon Quest, or both!

Matthew has finished every Iditarod he has started, as well as finishing the Yukon Quest and the Iditarod w/in 4 weeks of each other in 2013. He has finished multiple mid-distance (2-400miles) races as well.

Of course we asked Matthew to fill out the official “#WoolxinAction Questionnaire”, read on to delve deeper into the mind of an extreme brand ambassador!

023Favorite Woolx product?

-So far it’s the Grizzly Hooded Sweatshirt butt the boxers are a close second

Where would you live if it could be anywhere in the world?

-It doesn’t matter as long as it’s legal to have 40+ sled dogs.

What’s on your bucket list, any big adventures that you dream of undertaking?

-Creating/building a beautifully hardworking athletic sled dog team and winning Iditarod with them.

What’s your favorite outdoor memory?

-Harvesting my first deer with my father and having him there to teach me how to properly clean/gut it.

185What’s your favorite food, or the best meal you’ve ever had?

-Gotta be frozen pizza’s…probably Red Baron Mexican Style Taco Pizza, with Barbeque sauce of course.

What’s the scariest moment you’ve had outdoors?

-Besides being scared out of my mind on a Haunted Hay Ride when I was in Junior High, last years Iditarod was intense traveling from Shaktoolik to Koyuk across the Bering Sea. Very windy, at night, low visibility, trail was borderline impossible to find.

IMG_6378Do you have a favorite animal?

-It has to be the dog, but I am a fan of most animals.

What motivates you to keep going when the going gets tough?

-It is pretty easy to keep going now a days, the TEAM has so much invested in this business. I owe a great deal to our Boosters and Sponsors, family and fans…they keep me going, besides owing it to the dogs, they are the ones that get me to the finish line.

What is your favorite time of year and why?

-Fall. Usually October when I can come home from Juneau and work on projects at our property in Willow, AK. It’s a nice time of year because training is light and the sun is still high in the sky.

Do you have a personal hero, or heroes who inspire you?

-My parents, Tim and Cheryl Failor. They have walked the line their entire life to show their children the playbook on life. I love them very much so.
