Safe Summer Fun For Pets

Fun In the Sun

Fun In the Sun

My family and I decided to go out the other night to grab a bite. My oven nor my grill was turning on that night. The humidity reached 110 percent!  So we went to a local pizza shop. Upon arrival, we heard barking from a car. I quoted” That better not be a dog left in a car”! Sure enough, it was. The owner had reached the car before I did. That was probably a good thing because I would of broken the windows of the car. People often forget that the car can reach temperatures over 150 degrees in less than 15 minutes.Killing many pets each year. It’s better to leave them home when its hot out. They are better off lonely in a cool home. Just as unsafe the car is, there are other summer bummers for pets as well. Provide safe summer fun for pets.

People don’t realize that pets can burn from the sun. Their pads are sensitive and can be scorched from hot streets or sidewalks so easily. Their noses, ears, and sometimes tails suffer from the terrible effects of the sun. If you apply sunblock to yourself take a extra minute to apply sunscreen to your pets exposed skin before heading out on an adventure. Dogs and cats with white fur are especially susceptible.

As important as their feet and cute little muzzles are so is the importance of water. Dehydration can occur quickly. Don’t leave them outside for too long. Or if they are outside pets , refresh and make sure their water is nice and cold and refilled often.Lift up their lip and take one good swoop on their gums. It should feel nice and wet, slick to you.If the gums feel dry, tacky or sticky, your dog is already affected by dehydration.  Carry a portable water dish with you on your adventures for a quick drink.

Thirsty!

Thirsty!

In warm weather comes fleas and ticks, many options are available now. If your pooch is a adventurist then hes likely to run into some bugs. Proper prevention can make a huge impact. A inexpensive pill for heart worm prevention can save you 1000’s of dollars for treating heart worm from a mosquito bite. And besides who wants these insects in their house, Not me! They may occasionally get a flea or two even on a medication. Don’t panic, a nice cool bath with a few splashes of vinegar work great. And don’t forget your rat tail comb. They trap the fleas the best in my opinion.

Following precautions this summer will make for a long, friendly, happy summer with your pets! Making lasting memories. Your pet will thank you in his or her own way.
