Week 11 of getting fit at 50 was a mixed week. I took 2 days in a row off and missed my goal both days. I made up for it though on the weekend with 2 good days and still averaged slightly over 10,000 steps a day. Not my best week but not my worse either.
I decided to let my knee rest up a bit and stayed off the treadmill 2 days in a row. The rest worked out as I knocked the rest of the week out of the park. I can definitely see the benefits of taking a day off to give your body time to recover. In reality thats training 101 as everything you read says to rest between workouts. I guess us newbies just don’t want to listen. I could definitely feel the difference when I returned to the treadmill after the two days off. My knee hurt less, muscles felt rested, and the discomfort after the workout was greatly reduced.
I do believe I can still hit the treadmill every day. I’ll just have to do an easy day of walking between the days where I jog to work up to running my 5K. Sometimes you have to slow down to go faster!
How did week 11 turn out? Well here are the stats:
So not a horrible ending to the week even with that low step count on Wednesday. I still managed to average over 10,000 steps a day and had a great day on Saturday.
So in closing for week 11 I am plugging along and am determined to be running in a 5K by June! If my 50 year old body doesn’t fall apart I am thinking it is doable! Thanks for stopping by and look for next weeks post!
