Woolx interviews #WoolxinAction team member and Appalachian Trail hiker Dennis Plato!

On April 28, 2015 #WoolxinAction team member Dennis Plato struck out from Springer Mountain in Georgia on an amazing adventure – 2015-10-20_1103thru-hiking the 2,180 mile long Appalachian Trail. Although injury forced him to cut his hike short (he left the trail in Vermont after hiking for over 5 months and 1600 miles) this epic section hike was a game changer for Dennis and kick started an exciting new chapter in his life!

Hiking the Appalachian Trail is a monumental undertaking. The AT is the longest hiking-only trail in the world, extending from Georgia through North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire to its northern terminus atop Mt. Katahdin in Maine. Over the last few years around 2500 people have set out each spring to complete either a north or southbound thru-hike on the AT, with a completion rate of around 25%. But the AT isn’t just for thru hikers, many people complete the whole trail over the course of several years in separate section hikes, and it’s estimated that almost 2 million people hit the trail every year for shorter days hikes and camping trips.

IMG_0652We caught up with Dennis at the Woolx offices this October as he was passing through Upstate, NY on his next big adventure, a road trip and full time move to Colorado. We were super lucky to hear all about Dennis’ experiences on the trail, the great people he met, and of course how his Woolx Outback T and Daily Boxers held up to the grind of full time hiking! Check out the full interview below to learn more about why Dennis decided to give up a career in financial services, leave his home in Boston, and become and full time Adventurer!
