So you want to start a Fitness regimen. You worked hard all day, and now you want to come home and do some type of outside activity. So whats stopping you! Oh yes, that’s right, you have a fuzzy face with sad brown eyes staring at you. Your pet! He or she has been home patiently awaiting your arrival. No need to leave your furry family member out, let them join.  Working out with your dog is good for you and them.  A tired dog is a well behaved dog! Below is some fresh and fun fitness ideas for involving your family pet into your fitness plan.

Walking with Weights: One of my personal favorites. I carry weights when walking sometimes so I asked my very crafty husband to make me a backpack for the dogs. It was made out of canvas and strapped onto their back. Each side had zippered pockets. I placed 3 water bottles on each side, for a total of 6, and a water dish for you know who!  You can place whatever you like in the pockets, but I liked water cause I could sneak a sip if needed and when my trusty friend wanted a drink I could pour him a cold one in the water dish we carried along! Just make sure the load you put on your dog isn’t more than they can handle.

Running : You will want to start your pup young on this one! It will take some training to make your dog want to run along side of you. He or she needs to be disciplined on how not to stop and smell everything. A shorter leash works great for running. I typically run 3 miles, but when running with your best friend cut back if its hot out and remember that pavement is hot on their pads. So a nice terrain run works better.

Playing Frisbee: Your arms will thank you for this! Tossing a Frisbee is not just fun but can be a great way to get in shape. A fun, entertaining way to Working out with your Dog. Your arms will feel the burn! Most dogs will learn to bring the Frisbee back to you after consistent practice. Perhaps a little treat to award them for bringing it back.
